I'm so sorry to learn that Joanne is gone.  Can anyone tell us what she was/had been doing?

Anne Ackermann (Frank)

Joanne and I lived next door to each other on Sunset Road near NTE.  We had lunches together and were great friends.  She was a fun-loving, gentle spirit.  She lived in Colorado for many years and died of breast cancer in 2005.  I am going to write her mother to get more information.  Anne Ackermann

The following information was provided to me by Joanne's younger sister Susan.  Joanne certainly lived a full life, and we miss her.  Anne Ackermann

She loved to travel and spent a year living in El Salvador

Bought property in 1978 in Costa Rica

Lived in Barcelona for 2 years teaching ESL but returned home to be closer to family

Lived in San Francisco worked at College of Notre Dame teaching ESL

Traveled to Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Central America often with sister Susan

Met future husband Tom Cochran on one of many trips to Costa Rica

Worked for World Learning and taught advanced English to business leaders

She opened international branches of that program in Argentina, Brazil, Thailand and others countries, lived there during the process, and traveled to neighboring countries and made lifelong friends everywhere she went.

Her passport is overflowing with stamps, had incredible stories and adventures from everywhere around the world

Adopted Daughter Emily from Guatemala in 1998

Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer early 1999

Spent the next 6 years trying to find a cure, including living with her family in Argentina

Continued to travel with her family including sister Susan’s family and brother William

Died March 8 2005 and is survived by mother Eleanor, Sisters Carolyn and Susan, brother William, husband Tom and daughter Emily, and nieces and nephews who adored “Jo Jo”.
