Joanne went to University of Colorado and graduated in 1976 with BA in Psychology.
She loved to travel and spent a year living in El Salvador
Bought property in 1978 in Costa Rica
Got her Masters degree in Linguistics at CU specializing in Teaching English as a Second Language
Lived in Barcelona for 2 years teaching ESL but returned home to be closer to family
Lived in San Francisco worked at College of Notre Dame teaching ESL
Traveled to Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Central America often with sister Susan
Met future husband Tom Cochran on one of many trips to Costa Rica
Worked for World Learning and taught advanced English to business leaders
She opened international branches of that program in Argentina, Brazil, Thailand and others countries, lived there during the process, and traveled to neighboring countries and made lifelong friends everywhere she went.
Her passport is overflowing with stamps, had incredible stories and adventures from everywhere around the world
Adopted Daughter Emily from Guatemala in 1998
Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer early 1999
Spent the next 6 years trying to find a cure, including living with her family in Argentina
Continued to travel with her family including sister Susan’s family and brother William
Died March 8 2005 and is survived by mother Eleanor, Sisters Carolyn and Susan, brother William, husband Tom and daughter Emily, and nieces and nephews who adored “Jo Jo”.
